Family Fun Night

We had a great turnout to this popular, fun-filled, annual Buker tradition.  Thank you to all for understanding and being flexible with the unexpected ending.  We announced the raffle winners at the end of the day today.  Congratulations to the winners!

This event only happens because of the strong support of our parents.  Under the direction of Brandy Wilbur, Asma Syed, Jess Roy, and Natalie Blue, a team of parents planned exciting activities, including pumpkin decorating, games, arts and crafts and gift baskets.

Thank you to all parents for supporting Family Fun for our school community!

Buker Cares About Kolter Elementary School

In keeping with Buker's spirit of community service, an ongoing effort was launched last month to aid school-aged victims of Hurricane Harvey. The rebuilding of the storm-ravaged areas will take many months, if not years. Children have been impacted in countless ways, from being displaced from their homes to lacking the basic necessities to help them excel at school.

Thanks to the outreach of members of our staff, Buker was able to connect with an elementary school just outside of Houston. Kolter Elementary School, located in Bellaire, TX, serves children from pre-k through 5th grade.

Buker recently shipped six boxes of donated math manipulatives to Kolter and dedicated the proceeds of the Ice Cream Social's LEGO guessing game to aiding the school.

Soon your children will be invited to raise small donations to help Kolter through a Morning of Movement event at Buker in early November. Donations will be directed toward the Kolter teachers' wish lists of outstanding supplies. Please stay tuned for a flyer and pledge form.

Additionally, we have received Kolter's class lists with first names so that during school our children may personalize a card or letter for Kolter's students. This will provide a meaningful opportunity for Buker citizens to engage with the students of Kolter who have faced such adversity.

On behalf of the Buker teachers and parent volunteers organizing these efforts, thank you for your family's support! If you have any questions, please contact Amy Orlando (a.orlando@hwschools.net), Frances Wetterlow-Thibeault (fwetterlowthibeault@gmail.com), Alison Hawkins (ajahawkins@gmail.com) or Amber Woolfenden (awoolfenden@gmail.com).

Early Act

EarlyAct is a community service club sponsored by our local Rotary. EarlyAct provides students the opportunity to gain an increased awareness and knowledge of our communities and the world. The mission of EarlyAct is to promote goodwill, understanding and peace through the active participation of its student members in monthly before school meetings and the planning of community service projects and events. At a young age, all students can easily be encouraged to be caring and helpful!

EarlyAct teaches respect, empathy, tolerance, caring, citizenship, compassion, responsibility, leadership, friendship and teamwork.

Please fill out the form if you are interested in having your child(ren) participate in the EarlyAct Club.

Our first meeting date will be Friday, November 3rd at 7:30am in Mrs. Gray’s classroom!

Phys. Ed. Requests

Hello Buker families!

I am looking for some recycled items to use in Physical Education. I am collecting  plastic bottle caps from water bottles, soda bottles, any size - even the wider plastic caps from Vitamin Water size bottles will work.  The more variety in sizes and color, the better. I have some lessons involving spelling and math for the younger grades that calls for lots and lots of bottle caps.
Also, if there are any used Twister games (with the spinners) that families can part with, I will put them to good use with some fun activities.

Thank you in advance!  I will leave a box outside the main office to collect my recycled treasures. Hope your children are having a great time in Physical Education!
