Mother-Son Knight Out

One School One Book

In honor of Read Across America, Buker will be participating in a One School, One Book project.

Every family will be receiving a copy of the same book – E.B. White's Stuart Little – and we are asking you to read it at home over the next three weeks.  Please make the time so your family can participate in this special activity.

Thank you to Heather Romiza and Amy Kolano for providing the Scholastic Book Fair Dollar resource that provided a gift of this book to each family.

There is a reading schedule on a bookmark that will come home with the book. The book has 15 chapters (131 pages). Our goal is for families to read 5 chapters a week.

Buker’s website will have a link to a Stuart Little blog. Parents and students will be encouraged to join a discussion about the book with the teachers here at Buker. We hope that this will help to expand our literacy community.

Good luck!  We hope everyone will be talking about Stuart Little’s adventures. “When a whole school reads a book, there’s a lot to talk about.”  With your help, we can build a Community of Readers at Buker.

ATTENTION 4TH AND 5TH GRADE PARENTS

Each year as part of our Health Program, we present information on puberty for our 4th and 5th grade students.  We address the growth and development process, nutrition, personal hygiene, physical and emotional changes during puberty and the increased responsibilities that accompany these important changes.

On Monday, March 6th from 6:30 – 7:30pm there will be an information meeting for parents located at the Winthrop School. You will have the opportunity to view the videos we use and ask questions. Parents are encouraged join us to learn more about how we present this information to your children.  Permission slips will be sent home and it is necessary for these forms to be returned in order for the students to attend this program.  Parents who do not want their children to participate must indicate that on the form.

If you would like further information, please call Kathleen Hughes, Adjustment Counselor at 978-626-0873.
