STEM Day

Thank you to our parent community for supporting our successful first all-school STEM Day!  We wouldn't have been able to do this without the many volunteers and materials donations.  Many students commented on how much they enjoyed this hands-on learning experience.

The box fan donations were an important part of this experience.  If you loaned us a fan, they are available for pickup in the Buker School front lobby. A custodian will be on staff during the vacation week (M-F, 8-4p).  If you aren't able to pickup your fan during the vacation, please plan on picking it up once school is back in session.

Have a happy and safe vacation!

STEM Day is this Friday. We need your time and your pennies!

STEM Day Lunch

The school lunch menu will be revised to accommodate our all-school learning/STEM day on Friday, April 17.  Students will be eating in mixed groups in classrooms throughout the building.  A bag lunch is a necessity and will be provided for purchase as replacement of the regularly scheduled menu choice.  Students may bring their own bag lunch or purchase a sandwich option from our kitchen.

Lunch options for April 17:

Ham and cheese sandwich
Turkey and cheese sandwich
Bagel

Each bag will also contain fruit, chips, carrots, cookie, along with milk or juice.
Students choosing to bring their lunch from home will still be able to purchase a beverage.

In order for our kitchen to prepare for Friday's lunch, classroom teachers will take the student lunch/beverage count on Monday, 4/13.
Please discuss this with your child and make sure they know their choice on Monday.

Science Technology Engineering Math (STEM) Day: April 17th

On Friday, April 17th we are planning a whole school learning experience as a culminating activity for our Read Around the World literacy celebration.  Students and staff will work in mixed grade level groups to design and test windmills through the Museum of Science engineering education curriculum.

Classrooms shared a reading experience through the picture book, The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind.  This is the true story of William Kamkwamba who overcame many challenges in designing and building a windmill to support his community of Malawi in Africa.

We are in need of parent volunteers and donations of building materials so that our students can design and test their own windmills.  Please use this link to signup to donate time and supplies:  Buker STEM Day Signup

In addition to volunteers and donations we are in need of 32 medium to large box or circular fans and a large quantity of pennies for testing.   If you are able to loan a fan, please leave it in the office, clearly marked with your family name.   Pennies can also be left in the office, and will be donated as part of our ACORD Food Drive.

Thank you so much for supporting this exciting learning opportunity for our school!
