Placement Letter for Parents K-Gr4

Dear Parents,
We are beginning the very important process of class placement for next year.  The teachers and I will soon be meeting to build the classes. Our teachers have a very good understanding of your children, their learning styles, and social development.  We also value your perspective and input on the growth of your child.  I encourage you to respond to the questions on the form below.  I am confident that together we will place your child in the most appropriate environment for their learning success.

If you would like to share your thoughts about your child’s placement with us, please respond to the questions and return your input to the office by Friday, April 17, 2015.  However, please refrain from requesting a specific teacher by name, as this would not be in line with our process.

Thank you,

Brian O’Donoghue

[This form was sent to parents via Aspen email, as well.  Gr 5 Parents:  Please disregard;
sent in error.  Thank you.]

Buker School Annual ACORD Food Drive

Buker will once again be conducting an annual food drive to support our local ACORD food pantry.  This year we have decided to request their most needed items.  However, instead of collecting certain item donations by grade level, we want people to be able to donate whatever they are able to do.

Items will be collected right up to April vacation and can be brought to the Giving Tree (table located on the way to the cafeteria).  Please join us in this very important and worthwhile cause!

  • Snacks- individual packs like pb or cheese filled crackers, raisins, dried fruit, granola bars, etc.
  • Soup- low sodium or broths are great, or meals in a can such as Chef Boy R Dee, chili, beef stew, etc.
  • Coffee/Cocoa
  • Canned Meat- currently overrun with tuna but would welcome chicken, ham, salmon, etc.
  • Baking Mixes and Items- cookies and cake mixes, muffin and quick bread mixes, sugar, flour, oils, etc.
  • Condiments- ketchup, mustard, relish, mayo, etc.
  • Peanut Butter and Jelly/Jam
  • Tomato Products- diced, paste, sauce, etc.

Attention 4th & 5th Grade Parents

Each year, as part of our Health Program, we present information on puberty for our 4th and 5th grade students.  We address the growth and development process, nutrition, personal hygiene, physical and emotional changes during puberty and the increased responsibilities that accompany these important changes.

On Monday, March 30th, from 7:00 – 8:00pm there will be an information meeting for parents at the Cutler School Library, where you will have the opportunity to view the videos we use and ask questions.  I encourage you to join us to learn more about how we present this information to your children.

Permission slips will be sent home and it is necessary for these forms to be returned in order for the students to attend this program.  Parents who do not want their children to participate must indicate that on the form.

If you would like further information, please call Kathleen Hughes at 978-626-0873.

Kindergarten Students Create with Author Giles LaRoche

Buker Kindergarten students had a great experience working with author Giles LaRoche this week.  Following Mr. LaRoche’s instruction, they created individual cut paper houses with clearly defined architectural elements.
Beyond the creative engagement, students developed their organizational and planning skills to design their houses.  The demonstration of fine motor skills was certainly on display throughout this experience.  Thank you to the Friends of Buker for supporting our kindergarten and grade 1 residency with Giles LaRoche.

Buker Students Read Around the World

Buker students began their Read Around the World celebration this week with a kick-off school meeting hosted by our 5th graders.  This annual celebration of literacy and community building includes some different experiences for our students each year.  The Buker staff thoughtfully plans this 7 week celebration to be engaging across all grade levels and as a way to promote the joy of reading to inform, explore, and stimulate thinking and creativity.

This year, students will be getting their “passports” stamped as they do their independent reading while following along with Mr. O’s dog Lucy as she travels the seven continents.  Take a look at her first stop and ask your children to keep  you posted on her travels.

We have many exciting experiences planned throughout our celebration that will engage all students in an authentic cross-curricular study that promotes social learning and community building as well.
