Staff Breakfast Appreciation!

A warm Thank you for all of you who baked, donated, delivered, stood in the playground and help set up and clean up for our annual Holiday Teacher Breakfast.

The food was fabulous, the gift cards and poinsettias were a huge hit, and all the additional items helped make for a very special morning for the staff. The teachers really appreciated the wonderful breakfast and were grateful to the parents who volunteered to cover the playground so they could enjoy it.

Thanks for supporting our wonderful staff at Buker!
Please pick up your dishes/bowls by the front office.

Arrival and Dismissal Reminder

Wenham Police have asked that parents do not park along Perkins Street.   This creates a safety issue.
Parents dropping off students in the morning and picking up in the afternoon, please follow our arrival and dismissal procedure and use the moving car line.  Parents choosing to walk with their child in the morning to the playground, or picking up at the front door in the afternoon, please use the School Street parking lot.

Cars parked along the field on Perkins Street impede the passage of our buses and create a safety issue.

Friends of Buker Meeting: 12/10

Please come to the Friends of Buker meeting tomorrow, Thursday, 12/10, 9am in the Buker Multipurpose Room.  Siblings are welcome!

Community Service: City Mission Society of Boston

Hello,
I'm Eric Flynn and I'm a sixth grade student at Miles River Middle School. I'm a former Buker student and I'm doing a community service project with City Mission Society of Boston. I'm helping to donate gift items for needy families this holiday season and I'm hoping you can help.

City Mission Society of Boston is "the oldest multi-service social justice agency in New England." Their services reach over 40,000 people each year, and their mission is to "catalyze action to root out poverty" in Boston's neighborhoods.
Below are the items I need to collect:
Please know that the items need to be NEW.

  • Coats
  • Sweaters
  • Hats and gloves
  • Scarves
  • Socks
  • Toys
  • Books
  • Games for all ages
  • Blankets
  • Backpacks
  • Gift cards
I have a big box outside the front office where your children can place the donated items. I will bring the items to City Mission around Friday, December 11.  Thank you so much for your help.

Author Visit: 12/15-16

Friends of Buker is thrilled to be bringing the popular author Jarrett Krosoczka to Buker School December 15/16 and January 5/6. His visit has been partially funded through the Massachusetts Cultural Council's STARS grant. As in past years, Grades 3-5 will take part in this program's "Writer in Residence," which allows in-depth workshops that go beyond the typical author visit. This year, Grades K-2 will also get to be involved in the author's visit through participating in an engaging assembly!

Jarrett's books are widely available at Barnes & Noble and Amazon.  He will sign copies on 12/15 (12:30) and 1/5 (1p).  Pick up a favorite title while holiday shopping and make it an extra special gift with the author's signature.  He draws a picture in each book!

Many thanks to Cultural Enrichment Coordinator Emily Leland and the Friends of Buker for sponsoring this year's "Writer in Residence".

Scholastic Book Fair

Deby Baker and Jen Glovsky outdid themselves this year to make the Scholastic Book Fair a roaring success.  Here is their news of the fair:

Thanks to all the students and families that came to the Scholastic Book Fair last week.  We are pleased to announce that we sold a record $5,600+ of books.  We received 55% of the revenue in Scholastic Dollars that allowed us to supply all the books for the library and the classrooms that were not purchased by parents.  We still have plenty of Scholastic Dollars available for other school needs throughout the year!

Thank you to all who supported the fifth grade bake sale.  They made a whopping $403!!  Fifth grade is well on the way to funding a great week in the spring.

Lastly, special thanks to Jen Bent and Serenity for making our evening book fair event a success. Everybody LOVES Serenity.  Parents and children alike were mesmerized by her sweet nature.  She was definitely the hit of the evening!!

The next Scholastic Book Fair will be back in the spring.  That is our BOGO event.  (Buy one get one free!)  We hope to see you then!
