Library Volunteers

Hello Buker Parents!

Welcome back to a new year and fresh opportunities to get involved with your child at school.  I will be your contact for Buker library volunteers again this year.
My name is Sandy Maio, I have a 2nd and 4th grader at Buker.

As many of you know, library volunteers provide a valuable service to our kids during the school day.  If you are able to volunteer some time we would love to have you join us with whatever time you have available.  Some parents come in once a month or rotate with other parents from their children's classes or even rotate months.  We also need subs if a volunteer can't come in or their schedule changes.  We all get sick kids now and again so we understand!

Mrs Putnam has changed the role of volunteers this year, giving our old responsiblilities to the kids and creating a new position for us within the library.
This means we all need to be trained.

Currently training is scheduled for Wednesday, November 5 at 9AM.
We have a make-up session planned Monday, November 17 at 9AM.
Please make every effort to be at training because our roles have changed!

To be included for signups, please email me the following information:
Name, phone, email, and classes of choice and I will put together lists by class (your email will be shared) and then you can coordinate with others from the class on availability.   If you are available to sub, please let me know days you are available as well.

You must have a current CORI on file with the office.

They last for two years so please contact Chris Petrou if you are unsure if you are current.

Thank you for offering your time and we hope to see you in the library this year!

If your child is absent from school, or will be tardy,
please call the SAFE ARRIVAL LINE:  978-468-8400 before the start of the school day
Please put this number in your phone for easy access.

You can also email the information to:  bukersafearrival@hwschools.net

If you need to make a change to your child's dismissal plans, please do so BEFORE SCHOOL, and send a note in to school with your child.
Attached is a template to use to send in the necessary information.

Emailing the teacher during the school day is not advisable.  In the event of an unavoidable need to change plans during the school day, you may contact the office.  Please remember it is disruptive to the classroom to have last minute changes to dismissal plans.

Winter Assistance

The impending arrival of winter and the holiday season is an exciting and joyous time.  For many, however, it can also be a source of financial stress.   The additional financial burdens placed on families during this time of year can be overwhelming.  With the increase in heating costs, holiday expenses and other winter essentials, it can be hard to manage everything.

There are two wonderful resources in the Hamilton/Wenham area that can provide assistance to families who may be experiencing financial burdens.  One is the WISSH (Wenham Issues of Social Service and Housing) Program, which offers confidential financial and social service assistance to Wenham residents in need of help in emergency situations.  Any Wenham family that meets the basis financial requirements may apply for up to $500 per year for such things as utilities, medical bills, food, etc.  If you are interested in applying for assistance or looking for more information, please contact Kathy Hughes, Adjustment Counselor, at 978-626-0873 or the WISSH Director at 978-468-5520 x9.

The other program that is available to both Hamilton and Wenham residents is the Hamilton-Wenham Holiday Assistance Fund.  This confidential program was established to assist Hamilton-Wenham Regional School District students and their families who have experienced a hardship due to unemployment, family illness, or some other circumstance.  Due to limited funds, it is not intended to be a long term assistance program or for families to use repeatedly, unless there are extenuating circumstances.  Assistance would be in the form of gift cards for winter clothing and/or food or, in some instances, gifts of essential clothing such as winter coats, hats, pajamas, socks, etc.  If your family is having the type of difficulties stated above and you would like to request assistance, please contact Kathy Hughes before November 3rd.

If you are interested in making a monetary donation to the program, you may also contact Kathy Hughes.
