Placement Letter for Parents

Dear Parents,

We are beginning the very important process of class placement for next year.  The teachers and I will soon be meeting to build the classes. Our teachers have a very good understanding of your children, their learning styles, and social development.  We also value your perspective and input on the growth of your child.  I encourage you to respond to the questions on the back of this letter.  I am confident that together we will place your child in the most appropriate environment for their learning success.

If you would like to share your thoughts about your child’s placement with us, please respond to the questions in the form below and return your input to the office by Friday, May 9, 2014.  However, please refrain from requesting a specific teacher by name, as this would not be in line with our process.

Thank you,

Brian O’Donoghue

MCAS Schedule: Grades 3, 4 and 5

This MCAS schedule is a reminder to all families to help with planning and scheduling.  Your help is needed to ensure trips and appointments made do not conflict with this Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education mandated testing window. Students need to arrive to school on time.  Thank you in advance for your support and assistance.

"Special Educator of the Year"

HAMILTON/WENHAM: HWSEPAC Looks for “Special Educator of the Year” Nominations

Last year, the Hamilton Wenham Special Education Parent Advisory Council instituted the “Special Educator of the Year” award to recognize those teachers who work with children with disabilities in the Hamilton Wenham School District. They are soliciting names for the 2013/2014 award.

“We think it’s important to recognize and honor the work all teachers and administrators do, especially those who work to help make students with delays or disabilities successful. Their work affects so much of our child’s experience… academically, emotionally, socially, sometimes even physically and psychologically. It’s a special calling and we as parents appreciate it,” says Margo Killoran, SEPAC steering committee member.

If you would like to nominate a special education teacher or administrator for the 2013/2014 award, please email Lisa Crawford at or call 978-468-6246. The deadline for nominations is April 30, 2014.

Joanne Coughlin, last year’s Special Educator of the Year, holds her award from the Hamilton Wenham Special Education Parent Advisory Council. She is an Intensive Special Needs teacher and ABA Specialist at Hamilton-Wenham’s Winthrop School.

Bicycle Permission Review

Students in grades K-3 may ride their bikes to school with adult supervision. Children in grades four and five are allowed to ride their bicycles to Buker School independently.

All children under 12 years of age must wear a helmet according to Massachusetts State Law.  Students should ride bikes with the flow of traffic.

A bike rack is provided for student use.  The school cannot be responsible for lost or stolen bicycles.

Children should not ride bicycles in rainy, icy or snowy weather.  Parents are responsible for the safe operating condition of their children’s bicycles.  Youngsters who ride to school should be reminded that riding bicycles on the playground is not allowed.  Improper use of this privilege will result in its suspension.
