First Grade's New Garden

Thanks to a generous grant from the Hamilton-Wenham Education Fund,
Buker first graders are developing a garden in the back courtyard.

Flowers and vegetables will be grown and used in the cafeteria and classrooms.
All of the extra food will be donated to the ACORD Food Pantry.

Help is needed!   It's a fun hands on activity for children of all ages.
We are looking for volunteers throughout the spring and summer of 2014.
Please contact Mrs. Gray for more information.

Middle Schoolers help out for their Community Service Projects.

Successful Lockdown Drill

Buker school students and staff, with the assistance of Hamilton and Wenham Fire and Safety representatives, successfully completed our planned lockdown drill.

These drills will be part of our yearly training, as we work to provide a safe learning environment for everyone.

Winter Assistance Fund

The impending arrival of winter and the holiday season is an exciting and joyous time. For many, however, it can also be a source of financial stress.  The additional financial burdens placed on us during this time of year often can be overwhelming for families.  With the increase in heating costs, holiday expenses and other winter essentials, it can be hard to manage everything.
I would like to take this opportunity to remind everyone of three resources in the Hamilton/Wenham area that can provide assistance to families who may be experiencing financial burdens.  One is the WISSH (Wenham Issues of Social Service & Help) program, which offers financial and social service assistance to Wenham residents in need of help in emergency situations.  Any Wenham family that meets the basic financial requirements may apply for up to $500.00 per year for such things as utilities, medical bills, food, etc.  If you are interested in applying for assistance, or looking for more information, please call the program directly at 468-5520, Extension 9.
The Hamilton Foundation is a similar program for Hamilton residents.  It was created to help meet the unexpected, urgent, and short-term needs of residents due to job loss, death, divorce or catastrophic illness.  To apply for assistance, please call Loretta Cusick at 978-922-3301, Extension 3.
Another program that is available to both Hamilton and Wenham residents is the Hamilton-Wenham Holiday Assistance Fund.  This program will provide supermarket gift certificates and gifts for Thanksgiving and other holidays to families who are in need of support.  If you would like to be included in this program, please call me at 978-626-0873 as soon as possible.  Referrals to any program will be completely confidential.
Please don’t hesitate to contact me if I can answer any questions.
