From the Health Office

Annual Mandated Health Screenings will begin in October.  A reminder that if you would like to opt your child out of any of the screenings, the Health Office needs to be provided with written, signed notification of your wishes by October 1, 2013.  If you do not receive confirmation that your notification has been received, the Health Office has not received it.  Details about what screenings are done can be found in the Health office Newsletter emailed home September 18th.

The Health Office is now tweeting!  You can follow on Twitter at  @BukerNurse  The nurse will be passing along health and wellness tips and news from varying sources that may be of interest to our Buker community, as well as reminders like the one above about screenings and other Health Office news.

Please remember that the re-tweeting of posts from other organizations does not imply support, agreement with, or endorsement of, products or ideas.  Simply sharing information for our community members to exercise their judgement on.

Measures of Academic Progress (MAP) Assessment

Students will begin MAP assessments this week.  This is a computer-based assessment for  literacy and mathematics.  Students will have time scheduled over the next few weeks to complete the MAP.  This is our second year using this tool.  Teachers use the data from the MAP to plan for instructional groups. The MAP will be administered again in the spring, in order to track student progress.

Kids and Company: Kindergarten-Grade 2

On Monday, September 23rd from 7:00 – 8:00 pm, we will hold a parent forum at the Winthrop School Library to discuss the district’s safety curriculum, Kids and Company: Together For Safety.  This is a comprehensive program taught in grades K-2 that provides children with the skills, information, self-confidence and support necessary to prevent abduction and sexual abuse.  The program takes a positive and constructive approach in helping children respond to various situations and make safe decisions.
Kids and Company has been taught in the district for the past twelve years.  The forum will provide parents who are unfamiliar with the program an overview of the skills that are taught, and a chance to view the materials used.
If you have any questions about the program or the forum, please contact me at 978-626-0873.

If you are picking up or dropping off your child in a vehicle, please enter School Street off of Perkins.
This is a moving line.  Do not park along this road.

If you are walking your child to school from Perkins Street, please use the crosswalk at Perkins and School to come to the playground.  Please do not enter the one-way exit road.  This is dangerous, as the buses are using the road to exit.
